I went and applied at the Chart House and the Beach House restaurants in Cardiff yesterday. I'll probably need to follow up with them as they get hundreds of apps a week I'm sure. The Chart House is my first choice and I think I could really meet some cool people working there which would be great. The money would be nice as well. It's right on the water as they all tend to be and I love the place.
I also went to the Mira Costa College yesterday to inquire about becoming a student. The place is crazy cheap, $20 a credit for in state residents. It's $184 per credit for out of state students, however, which includes me. There is a one year residency requirement to be considered in state. That pretty much sums up that decision. It's hard to justify the $164 per credit hour difference when I'm not sure I really even want to take the classes I was looking into. Maybe next year.
On my way to LA last week I stopped by Oakley's headquarters in Orange County. An amazing place built on top of a hill which is basically a compound. The parking lot was massive with parking down the hill completely full along with tons of parking on top. I couldn't believe it. Check out the entrance to this place.
I think it would be really cool to work there as everyone coming out of the building was dressed in skater shorts and a t-shirt. Way casual.
In LA I drove by my old apartment where I lived back in '95 and '96. They have repainted the building and it looks really nice. My apartment was the bottom one with the arrow. That is my favorite place I've ever lived. I absolutely loved it. My own little studio with Ara across the hall and Dallas 2 doors down. We were a great little family when we all needed someone. Good times.
Today I went downtown to check it out again as I was set to play tennis at 6:30 near Ocean Beach. I went down to Pt. Loma to check it out along with Kensington, Normal Heights, and North Park. They were neat little areas but nothing caught my eye to where I'd want to move down. I do like downtown San Diego with all the high rises and the great condos. It looks like I could get a nice condo for around $400K but that will certainly have to come in time. I'd like to live in a cool building again with my own place and an amazing view of the water and the city. That is a nice aspect of downtown San Diego unlike most other cities. Kind of reminds me a little of Downtown Seattle or at least the Pike's Market area.
Here are a few pictures from the bluffs near Ocean Beach. I met a cool photographer doing a shoot out there and I told him I'd hit him up with my info in case he needs an assistant. Would be cool.
Time to get back on the bike tomorrow. Haven't ridden since the race on Sunday. I've just been eating a shitload and I'm sure gaining some weight. Here is a pic of the Swami's team I ride for with me in the McDonald's jersey. They are an incredible group of guys as they have been so welcoming and supportive. Unlike in Texas where if I showed up for a group ride they would have snarled and tried to drop me on the rollout. Different world here for sure.
