3880 Miles

Posted by Tim

I finally made it to San Diego yesterday.  After 3 weeks and 3880 miles I'm here.  The distance from my old apartment in Dallas to my hotel is 1389 miles so I went a little out of the way!  It was an amazing trip and I don't have any regrets.  I really need to stop and take a look at where I've been and what I've experienced as it is all mostly a blur at this point.

I drove up the coast from San Diego to San Clemente to check out my favorite areas and get an idea about where I wanted to set up shop.  When I mentioned to several people that I was going to San Diego I got, "Why San Diego?"  Why?

Not to mention the proliferation of cyclists, triathletes, runners, surfers, etc. out and about all day.  I drove by the beach at 1pm today and saw several beach volleyball games, riders down the PCH, and surfers riding the waves.  Awesome place and I love it.  I'm ready to get settled in and adopt it as my home.

I mentioned surfing before and I'm really dying to go.  It looks amazing and it feels incredibly authentic to surf here.  It's like mountain biking in Colorado, skiing in the Alps, golfing in Scotland, whatever it's authentic.  I watched the surfers basically meditating out in the water as they waited for the next wave to pounce on and ride it for that brief moment of euphoria.

Hopefully the water will warm up enough where I can get in without a wetsuit.  I'm certainly a wimp when it comes to cold water.

This train goes from the North County to Downtown San Diego and could be an option to take if I wind up working downtown and live up in the North area.  Only God knows at this point what's going to happen.

The US open is in town so there are going to be thousands of eager fans flooding the area starting tomorrow.  I'm moving up North to Oceanside to a Motel 6.  Hope it's as nice as the one here in Carlsbad.  Today I got on my bike at the hotel and took off down the coast towards Torrey Pines, the sight of the Open.  I went up the huge hill to the course area and turned around.  It was a nice ride and felt great.  I talked to a triathlete from Venezuela who was very nice and beautiful.  She was actually getting married and moving to Houston with her fiancee at the end of the summer.  I seriously can't imagine making that move and wish them the best as they are going to need it moving to Houston from this place.

Tomorrow morning I have a meeting with a recruiter about an accounting job and then I'm moving to the new location.  Hope to go ride afterwards.
