LA

Posted by Tim

I went to LA Wednesday morning and visited Tim, my old roommate.  We went and had Thai food on Lincoln and we got an entree, rice, egg roll, soup, and salad for $5.95.  Wow.  Great to find hole in the wall places that are great and cheap.  He had to go to work so I got on my bike and went from Venice down to Palos Verdes down the coast.  It was a beautiful day and it turned out to be a great day.  I felt pretty good and enjoyed the ride.  Palos Verdes is so beautiful and I always enjoy going through there.

That night I went into LA and saw my old roommate Oren and his girlfriend.  They are living in an incredible sublet that is huge and fully furnished.  Very nice.  We walked down to the Grove with the Farmer's Market and had dinner at Cheesecake and caught up.  It was really great to see him and meet his girlfriend.  We haven't really connected in years and it was the right time to catch up and it was a nice time.

The rest of the trip I hung out with Tim and we ate, worked out on the beach, and just hung out.  It was so great just being and hanging out with no agenda and it is always nice hanging out with great, soul connected friends.  Yesterday we met Tim's sort of girlfriend and hung out with her and went to see Step Brothers.  Decent movie but script was all over the place.  After the movie I decided to head home at 1:00am to drive without traffic.  It took 1.5 hours at about 70 so I would imagine it would be 2.5 hours during normal traffic hours.

It was an amazing trip and I'm so grateful I followed my gut and went up.  I fell in love again with Santa Monica as it is so beautiful and there is so much to do.  Restaurants galore, beautiful places to live, and the beach.  I don't feel lead to move there now but if I had a great work opportunity up there I would seriously consider it.

I've realized that it is just too slow in Carlsbad where I live.  It is pretty much a utopia with perfect streets, million dollar homes and cookie cutter families in the suburban environment.  I think I really need to consider moving down towards San Diego so there is more energy and things to do and places to go.  I'm not sure if there is an ideal place in the San Diego area that resonates with me as I don't know much about the city area.  I'll just trust that things will evolve how they are supposed to from here.

The time trial is on which should decide the tour.  The top 20 are about to start.  Exciting.

I read a quote a while back which I've forgotten which pretty much sums up my sentiments at this time.  It was something about Happiness is not really there unless it is shared.  That might be way off but the shared is the main part.  It was great hanging out with great friends and sharing in the great times and happy moments.  For me great friends have been hard to come by as I'm not great at letting people in.  Well, I'm back in Carlsbad now, about to go ride after the tour and I'm supposed to do a bike race tomorrow in San Marcos.  Fun.
