I went on another ride with the club yesterday morning. It was supposed to be a nice recovery ride so I wasn't really worried about it. Good thing I didn't know better. It was very tough with 3200 feet of climbing in 39 miles. I've never climbed that much in one day. I did decently well, considering all the hills, but started cramping towards the end. It's amazing that each mile we went inland it was about a degree warmer. Needless to say it got really hot.
After the ride I moved to the Motel 6 in South Carlsbad. It is a ghost town now after the open is mostly over and it's great. I finally went down to the beach and walked around in the sand. I decided to finally get in the ocean and man it was pretty cold. The good news is that it was bearable and at least now I know I can get in without a wetsuit. I swam around and body surfed. It was the first time I was in the ocean since 1998.
Even though I didn't do much in Dallas the last few years, it's really a little tough being out here and not knowing a soul. At least I'm not in the middle of Kansas as the beauty makes it more tolerable. Just not being great at making friends as it is creates a challenge moving to a brand new area. I have to be patient though as things will evolve.
