I finally moved in today. It is awesome. I couldn't have asked for a better room. The other place I almost took was way nicer in the kitchen, back yard and cool toys with the HDTV, but my room in this place is awesome. It's twice as big with dual sinks, walk in closet with shelving and it rocks. Nice berber carpet as well.
I went and bought a mattress today and should get it Wednesday. Tomorrow I'm going down to IKEA and picking up a few things for the room to fill it up. Just the basics which I can use wherever I move.
Went to Walmart tonight and I was in for a rude awakening. There is no Super Walmart with all the great, cheap groceries out here. Just a few food items and they are way more expensive than normal Walmarts. I have a feeling the groceries are really going to hurt out here. Microwave popcorn is $2.50 in Dallas and $3.99 out here. Nuts.
This is also the upselling capital of the world. Go in to get a burrito, shows 4.20 and when he rings me up it's 5.60. "Oh but you got cheese." Burrito doesn't come with cheese? I went to a chicken place tonight and ordered a bowl. "Oh, for a $1 more we can do the good white meat. It comes with taco chicken normally. I'm picturing horrible, gross dark meat with fat and skin hanging off it. "Ok, I'll take the white meat. etc. etc.
Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be nice and settled and can fully focus on the job. I met with a recruiter today and I doubt it will turn into much. Basically another Apple One type of recruiter that mostly places temp and entry level positions with an occasional higher level position thrown in as the client didn't realize who they were dealing with.
