I stayed the day in Salt Lake as I thought the weather was going to be bad and didn't want to get out on the highways again. I finally went riding as the weather turned out great. It was about 57 but without the humidity I actually got hot riding with a jacket. Wow, the altitude kicked my ass. Its only about 5000 feet but when I came to a pretty steep hill I could barely make it up. I have a 25 in the back which makes me look like a fred in Dallas but I think I could have used a 29 today, or a triple. I don't see how the people from Dallas do the triple bypass in Colorado with a 23 without being acclimated to the altitude. Respect. Anyway, I only rode about 14 miles but it was 1400 feet of climbing. A long Hubbard loop of 65 miles is about 1800 feet so I climbed a lot relatively.
Salt Lake City needs to be renamed Smoke Lit City. I've never seen so many people smoking, especially the younger women. I guess it is a product of the LDS controlling regime; I mean upbringing. I guess they will realize that repression has the opposite effect quite often.
My hotel is swarming with rather peculiar, alternative types in town for the science fiction and fantasy convention. They are pretty much geeks and self proclaimed I might add. I've talked to tons of them in the elevator and they are just loving every minute of it. Most of them attended the national horror convention a few months ago. Like I've said before, there is pretty much a venue for anyone and any hobby in this world. A bad ass ping pong player can be at the International ping pong extravaganza and when Su Dok So walks by people will whisper, "There goes Su Dok So. He's a bad ass Mother F#@$#@."
I plan on doing a group ride tomorrow morning. I'll probably get dropped in 5 minutes but it will be good to get out again. Then I'm heading out to Highway 50 tomorrow through Nevada towards Lake Tahoe. I hope to get some hiking and more riding in.
