I headed out of Green River and it was raining pretty steadily. I really don't like rain but I can tolerate it for a while if I know it is going to end soon. The forecast looked like rain for 4 days. Oh well. Just part of the adventure.
Once I got a little further I started going up a mountain pass and things got scary for this inexperienced snow driver. It was snowing pretty hard and the roads were wet with standing water. 18 wheelers were hauling ass, coming up on me and zooming by. A guy I talked to last night in Park City said it was the most dangerous road in America. I can see why.
A nice gas station I stopped in at the top of the summit. Nicest bathrooms I've even seen in a rest stop. Talked to some ladies inside that said it was 97 a few days before. Just like Texas, never know what the weather will do.
I finally made it back to just rain and my blood pressure went down. I just didn't know what was safe. I probably could have gone 80 and it would have been fine but I wasn't risking it.
The drive up to Park City was awesome. I pulled off on a random road that lead up the side of the mountain.
I saw a biker going down riding the brakes and soaking wet. He was a trooper I suppose. I still can't wait to ride on a road like this and hopefully the weather will clear in a few days.
I finally made it to Park City. I was here about 4 years ago and I thought the town was pretty cool but I wasn't that impressed. This time I can truly say I'm in love with the place. I drove around the entire city and the weather actually made it really nice. It was great to see the city with the moodiness of the weather rather than crystal clear skies. I took another drive up the mountain and it was amazing. The homes people have that they spend 2 weeks a year in are unbelievable.
I rode up this road 4 years ago. It took me forever as it was straight up for miles. The downhill was awesome back into town though at 50mph until a car pulled out in front of me. Let's just say I didn't give the lady a friendly hello.
I also went to the Olympic center from the 02 Olympics. It was just about to close but I got a shot of the bobsledding area before a concerned worker yelled at me and notified me that the park was closed. It was 6:08 and the park closed at 6:00.
The road up to the center was nice just like every other road in the city.
Overall I loved the place. I went and had pizza down town and walked around. I'd really like to experience the city one day in the midst of the Sundance Film Festival with all the parties and craziness. I tried on living in the city in my mind but concluded it is a great place to spend some time but it's not for me long term. The locals mostly seem to be young kids just out of college or older retired people. The movers and shakers fly in for a week or so and are back to their lives far away. I think it would be like when I lived in Vail and got cabin fever after a few months as I craved the energy of a big city.
I'm off to Salt Lake to spend a few days. Supposed to rain so I'll do normal mundane activities like read, go shopping and watch movies. And eat a bunch.
