Monterey

Posted by Tim

Sleeping in until 9:30 felt really good. I went outside and it was completely sunny and the weather felt great. It was nice to see and feel the sun as it had rained for the last 7 days. I could definitely feel the vibe of California. Just the way the streets and buildings were designed combined with the piercing sun.

I took off down 152 towards Monterey. A nice drive and very fast and technical. Downhills with twists and turns at 75 mph with Semis right next to me.

gilroy

Gilroy was a neat town and I stopped at Walmart to fill up on water and bars. Prices were the same as Dallas. I noticed this sign for gas with an option for 100 octane gas; like airplane fuel.

I was definitely more in the flow. I drove down near Cannery Row and decided to pull over and look up hotels on the internet. I pored over the listings and as I was searching I looked up and spotted the Otter inn. It looked cool so I went in and the guy gave me a great deal. He was a moody son of a b#$@$# but he was nice to me. He got all pissed when the phone ring when I was in there. He left the person on hold the entire time he made the reservation. Multi tasking sucks.

I decided to finally go to the aquarium. I had been to Monterey 4 times before and had never gone. It was really cool. I only had an hour and a half before closing so I flowed through it fairly quickly.

Imagine having this job.

It was a great time to go as there weren't many people in the aquarium. The guy there told me in peak times there are around 13000 people and yesterday maybe 2000.

I walked around the town for a while and checked out the walkway along the water.

Along the water is my tried and true favorite restaurant, the Chart House. Its a chain and I'm sure the locals would berate me for going there but it is consistent and the view is great. They sat me right next to the window and it was awesome. In the past I have spotted several whales but this time they weren't stirring.

CHARTHOUSE

This morning it is very overcast and the sun is gone. At least it's not raining. I'm heading down the coast and possibly to the Hearst Castle and on the to LA.
